While showers across different parts of the Capital for the second consecutive day on Tuesday brought down the mercury by nearly seven degrees Celsius since Sunday, the rain relief could be temporary. According to the Meteorological department, sunny days, and warmer daytime temperature,is set to return from Wednesday.

India Meteorological Department director B P Yadav on Tuesday said,“The major effects of the Western Disturbance is over at least in Delhi; Wednesday will not see any more rains.”

The Western Disturbance, which has led to snowfall and rain in Jammu and Kashmir, parts of Himachal Pradesh,Delhi and neighbouring areas in the last couple of days, has lost its intensity and will not cause fresh showers in the Capital,he said.

But the spell of showers from late Monday evening made up for more than 80 per cent of the average rainfall received in Delhi in the month of February,Met department officials said. Delhi received 14.8 milimetres of rain since Monday evening — the city,on an average, receives a total of 18.3 mm rain in February.

The two-day rain spell also meant that the month has already scored over January in terms of rainfall: January, which traditionally receives more showers, recorded just 6.2 mm rainfall this year against the average of 22.6 mm.

According to the Met department, the mercury is likely to shoot up a few notches from Tuesday’s 23 degrees Celsius, and despite some mist in the morning, the rest of the day will be warm.
