Prof who wrote to PM alleges threat

S K Dubey was allegedly targeted for writing a letter to the Prime Minister,complaining of corruption in the agency. Though the government termed the allegation as a deliberate attempt to “hack” the “fairly delicate” investigation of the ED into illegal money stashed abroad by Indians,the Supreme Court took a serious view of the matter.

The Bench of Justices B Sudershan Reddy and S S Nijjar directed the Union of India to file a detailed affidavit after conducting an inquiry into the allegations.

The court also asked the Delhi Police Commissioner,to whom Dubey had complained,to file an affidavit on whether a FIR was registered into the complaint.

Senior advocate Rajiv Dhawan,who represented Dubey,read out from the latter’s affidavit about how he had received a call from senior ED official on April 4 to seek an appointment. The official came within “45 minutes” and threatened him.

The March 21 letter levelled graft charges against three officers,including the ED Director.

The Centre was also asked to get back to the court on April 15 on the issue of constituting an SIT.
