The government has asked discoms to ensure constant power supply during summer.
With peak summer fast approaching the capital, various stakeholders in the power sector are anticipating possible power outages. With the all-important Grid Coordination Committee (GCC) expected to meet next week to deliberate on various issues, the committee has set the capital’s power supply situation on top of its agenda.
GCC stakeholders anticipate a possible shortage if the required infrastructure, including upgradation of the capital’s transmission system, is not met before April. Earlier, the government had warned the discoms to provide uninterrupted power supply during summer.
The discoms have predicted a 6,500 MW consumption this year during summer months as against last year’s 5,789 MW.

The GCC — which includes various stakeholders from the transmission and power department, including the discoms — will be discussing the upcoming sub-stations in the city and if they will be fully functional during peak summer months.
This comes after Tata-owned TPDDL “insisted” that if Delhi Transco Limited’s (DTL) sub-stations at Peera Garhi and its cable projects between Mundka to Peeragarhi, Peera Garhi to Wazipur are not completed in time, then there may be load shedding in case of overloading of existing line. DTL officials have said these projects will be completed by the end of April.
The other issue that would be raised will be the saturation of capacity in the densely populated central’s transmission system.
This comes after the Reliance-owned BYPL raised the issue of “saturation of capacity” of the DTL sub-station in Central Delhi, stating that it may pose problems during the summer.

More importantly, BYPL said the Ghazipur-Noida-Badarpur circuit is very important to meet any contingency in case of any problem in the Maharani Bagh-Ghazipur lines.
However, the Ghazipur-Noida-Badarpur lines are out of order. On this issue, DTL said it is regularly following up with its counterpart in Uttar Pradesh. DTL officials also said they have also arranged a meeting with the central power regulator for the early revival of the same.
The other issue to be discussed is setting up of additional transformers. Reliance-owned BRPL has raised the issue of setting up an additional transformer at Pappankalan. DTL said its request for diverting one transformer has not been accepted by Punjab State Transmission Co. Ltd.
