PWD Minister Atishi inspects work at Chirag Dilli flyover. (Twitter/Atishi)Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Atishi has issued directions to open one portion of the Chirag Dilli flyover for use by April 1, following a delay triggered by unexpected rain over the last few days.
The directions came following Atishi’s inspection of the flyover, which is running behind schedule by two days, on Saturday.
“She instructed officials to expedite the maintenance work on the first part of the flyover and prepare to open it for traffic by April 1,” the Delhi government stated.
Atishi, the government added, also directed officials concerned to ensure the engagement of more workers and machines during work related to the maintenance of the second part of the flyover, so that no inconvenience is caused to commuters.
“Our priority is to get the people of Delhi traffic-free. PWD is working on a war footing in this direction and will complete the maintenance work of the Chirag Delhi flyover soon so that people can get relief from traffic,” Atishi said.
Following related instructions to make an action plan for better traffic management during the maintenance of both phases of work, a traffic advisory is scheduled to be issued soon. According to the government, maintenance work on the flyover will be completed by March 31 and the route will be opened for traffic. “During the maintenance of the second part of the flyover, one of the two lanes will be kept open for vehicles so traffic can also move in one lane,” the government stated.
According to PWD officials, maintenance work was supposed to be completed in 50 days but, following recent directions by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is now scheduled to be completed within a month.
