Poll in sight, BJP continues its ‘power’ push in the capital

The Union transport minister laid the foundation for a 400/200-kV substation at Tughlakabad.

Just days after the BJP-led Centre launched five power projects in north, northwest, central and east Delhi, senior party leader and Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday laid the foundation for another power project, this time to improve reliability in supply in south and southeast parts of the capital.

Days before the Election Commission imposes the model code of conduct in the capital, the BJP government — promising not just “cheap” but also “reliable” power to woo the electorate — on Tuesday dedicated a sixth substation for the city.

The Union transport minister laid the foundation for a 400/200-kV substation at Tughlakabad. Speaking at the event, Gadkari said the project will be a milestone in strengthening the city’s power infrastructure.

Earlier, Union Minister of Power (Independent charge) Piyush Goyal had said five lakh LED lights would be installed in Delhi at a cost of Rs 500 crore, a move he said would reduce overall power consumption.
