Raising the election pitch in Delhi, BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday trashed the strongest card played by the Aam Aadmi Party and accused its chief ministerial candidate Arvind Kejriwal of “compromising with corruption.”

Addressing the party’s 1,599 booth heads and panna pramukhs (page in-charge) from 10 Assembly constituencies, at the Yamuna Sports Complex in East Delhi’s Surajmal Vihar, Shah asked the sloganeering crowd, “Which was that blue car that he (Kejriwal) had before?” The crowd shouted, “Wagon R”. “And which car does he drive around in now?” Shah asked. “Innova,” his supporters shouted.

“He has reached here from a Wagon R in 49 days. If he comes to power for five years, he will park an aircraft outside his house,” Shah said mockingly.

“Kejriwalji says that he is an aam aadmi (common man). He says he lives a simple life. But Kejriwalji…We have had a tradition of party supporters who never settled down with a family. They devoted their whole life to the BJP. The BJP has many more aam aadmis than AAP claims it has,” Shah said, incorrectly calling Kejriwal an IAS officer. The AAP chief was in the Indian Revenue Service.

Shah said Kejriwal had promised that if he came to power. he would put Sheila Dixit behind bars. “Then why, in 49 days, did he not lodge an FIR against Sheila Dixit? Because he compromised with corruption by taking the Congress’s support to form a government,” Shah said.

Shah then turned his attention to Bihar, which goes to poll later this year. “After February 10… don’t just celebrate the victory in Delhi. Delhi’s party workers have to lay the foundation for a a victory in Bihar too.”
