Plan to solve Vikas Marg parking problems

To sort out the parking mess on Vikas Marg, the United Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre has proposed creation of separate and dedicated parking sites.

After the centre made a presentation before the special task force created for decongesting Delhi on Monday,a government official said: “The pilot project on Vikas Marg,if it succeeds, may be replicated in other parts of the city. It involves parking for short durations such as shoppers, who need to park their cars for not more than an hour. Underground multi-level parking lots can be built for those who want to park their vehicles for longer durations. This includes shopkeepers and residents of the area.”

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor has in principle approved the project and the finer details were now being worked out,he said.

“For long-duration parking,we have identified vacant Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land near Laxmi Nagar,” the official said.

“We have yet to fix the parking rate. It will be nominal for the first hour, but differential slabs will be applicable thereafter,” he said.
