(Express Photo)The popular Pind Balluchi restaurant in Gurgaon’s Sector 29 was among two high-profile commercial properties sealed by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Friday, in its ongoing drive to recover long-pending property tax dues, after their owners failed to clear arrears running into crores despite repeated notices.
A team led by Zonal Taxation Officer B S Chhokar sealed the restaurant, which has an outstanding property tax liability of Rs 50,44,901. In a simultaneous action, the office premises of one Saicom Limited in Sector 16 were also sealed over unpaid dues amounting to Rs 75,46,116.
Officials said the sealing was carried out under provisions of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act after the defaulters did not respond to multiple reminders and notices.
The Indian Express reached out to the restaurant branch over call for comment; they are yet to respond.
MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya reiterated that payment of property tax is mandatory for all residential, commercial, industrial, institutional buildings and vacant plots within the corporation’s jurisdiction. He warned that the drive against defaulters would continue and similar action would be taken against others who fail to clear their dues in time.
“Property owners have been asked to deposit their pending tax at the earliest to avoid coercive recovery measures,” an MCG spokesperson said.
In September this year, the MCG had begun a rigorous sealing drive against defaulters across the city.
Special teams from the MCG’s Tax Branch have been targeting properties, including those within cyber parks, which have consistently failed to clear substantial tax arrears despite repeated notices.
Earlier, five properties in Zone-1 were sealed. One of the sealed properties in Narsinghpur had been noted to have three basements, highlighting the scale of some defaulters’ operations.
On October 29, the civic body had stated that it has collected more than Rs 261 crore in property tax in the current financial year 2025-26.
A civic body official had earlier told The Indian Express that the target is to reach Rs 400 crore in property tax collections this year, and that the tax branch has been issued clear instructions to ensure no laxity in recovery efforts.
