Opinion polls not transparent, far from reality: CM

Sheila Dikshit on Thursday charged the opposition BJP of attempting to influence inflation in the city though traders in a bid to ‘grab power’.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday charged the opposition BJP of attempting to influence inflation in the city though traders in a bid to ‘grab power’.

Pulling no punches while addressing multiple public rallies in the last lap of campaigning,Dikshit asserted that the BJP had incited traders into hoarding and profiteering.

The Chief Minister also confirmed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would not address any public rallies in Delhi,as his schedule was tight. “He is on a very tight schedule and may not find the time to address any rallies here,” Dikshit said.

Congress leaders had earlier said Singh would address at least one rally in the capital.

With rising prices of fruits and vegetables considered a major poll issue ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections on December 4,Dikshit alleged that the BJP had publicised high prices.

“This reflects the intention of the party to secure political gains. The BJP only indulges in theatrics without any actual sympathy for the common man,” Dikshit said.

The three-time CM on Thursday addressed four rallies — Seemapuri,Gokulpur,Mustafabad and Seelampur.

Dikshit also maintained that opinion polls did not reflect ground realities and asked voters not to be misled by the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

“Opinion polls do not have any basis. We are confident of our victory. People are not going to be misled by BJP and AAP. I am not at all worried,” she said, adding that such polls were not conducted in a transparent manner.

Asked if the Congress would consider post-poll alliances,Dikshit said,“The people will give my party a clear mandate as they know the value of their votes. There will be no hung Assembly. I will answer such questions only after the polls.”

She does a flip-flop on pact with AAP

Earlier in the day,Dikshit in an interview with CNN-IBN was quoted as saying that she won’t comment on a post-poll alliance with the AAP. “I will not comment on this. I did not rule it out,I did not rule it in,” she said. However,in a press conference at her residence,Dikshit said,“The people will give my party a clear mandate as they know the value of their votes. There will be no hung assembly here.” Later, she issued a statement saying there would be no post-poll alliances. On Thursday,AAP said it would neither seek support from nor extend support to the Congress or the BJP.
