A 25-year-old man died, and two of his friends were injured, when their speeding car rammed into a tree in Southeast Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on Wednesday night.

“The victim has been identified as Mohammad Javed,a resident of Pushp Vihar. His friends,Danesh (23) and Charan Singh (28) are recovering at a hospital. The accident was reported from the Sundar Nagar market area at 1.10 am,” a police officer said.

According to the police, the accident occurred while the three — who work as ticket clerks at Satyam Cinema in Nehru Place — were driving towards Mathura Road from India Gate. “Danesh was driving the Alto at a very high speed. As soon as they took a right near the Sundar Nagar market, the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into the tree,” the officer said.

Though the police were able to rescue Danesh and Charan from the mangled remains of the car with the help of gas cutters,Javed — who suffered serious injuries — died soon after the incident.

“We rushed them to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where Javed was declared brought dead. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered against unknown persons as of now,and we are investigating who was ultimately responsible for the victim’s death,” the officer added.
