Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah on Saturday registered a complaint against unknown persons for opening a fake Twitter account and posting “objectionable, indecorous and intemperate things” in his name,on a public forum.

A spokesperson of the ministry said Abdullah had never opened such an account,or authorised others to do so. He said that Abdullah, father of Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has expressed anger at “such misuse by unscrupulous elements of social networking sites, which are otherwise a boon for spreading information and freedom of expression”.

“A complaint in this regard has been lodged with the police. We have requested immediate investigation of the complaint,” the spokesperson said.

Unidentified persons had taken over Abdullah’s online persona and tweeted objectionable comments such as: I am the father of all miseries in Kashmir. Actually,my family must share the blame too! Besides this, the culprits also made references to the Kingfisher financial crisis and alleged that certain politicians have a lot of money stored in Swiss bank accounts.
