Nursery admissions could be delayed

In their petition, the schools said the notification took away their autonomy to admit students.

Nursery admissions in Delhi are likely to be delayed again this year as the Delhi High Court on Wednesday retrained the government from issuing guidelines during the pendency of a case against last year’s guidelines.

Last year, private unaided schools in the capital had challenged the notification issued by the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, whereby, a 100-point system had been created for nursery admission and the management quota had been done away with.

In their petition, the schools said the notification took away their autonomy to admit students. A bunch of petitions had also been filed by parents against various guidelines. “No guidelines shall be issued till the judgment is pronounced,” the court of Justice Manmohan said while reserving judgment in the case on Wednesday. The court also said it will issue its judgment before the beginning of December.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Education filed its response to an argument raised by the private schools regarding absence of adequate number of schools in certain areas of Delhi. Earlier, schools had said that some areas did not have enough schools for the neighbourhood criteria — which accounts for 70 points — to be met.
