Not Just Dahi

Red Mango packs a punch and many surprises into its yoghurt.

At the peak of its ripeness,a mango turns red and is

reputedly at its tastiest. This superlative flavour is what Red Mango,an American frozen yoghurt brand,seems to be aspiring to. Their first outlet in India recently opened at Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj — making even “yoghurt-ambivalents” like us curious. It’s dahi,after all. Or is it?

We trooped into the open-air ground-floor establishment of Red Mango to find out for ourselves. The outlet can seat around 20 people,who are offered a choice of half-a-dozen flavours in frozen yoghurt,and 30 in toppings. An array of snacks such as waffles and sandwiches form meal alternatives to the yoghurt.

We opt for a chicken tinga sandwich and caramel and banana waffle. The chicken tinga is nothing more than a regular chicken tikka sandwich — good but not exciting. The waffle,on the other hand,has us spouting poetry. The sliced bananas have been amalgamated into the waffle dough,toasted and then drizzled delectably with caramel and cold whipped cream. We should have ordered the grande size.

To end our meal,we select Madagascar Vanilla Yoghurt,topping it with bits of twix chocolate,chocolate flakes,and rainbow sprinkles,Ghirardelli white chocolate syrup

and Ghirardelli caramel. Despite our aforementioned neutral attitude to curd,we lick every bit of this delicacy. Though the toppings undoubtedly help,the yoghurt itself is good. Clearly,there’s curd. And then,there’s Curd.
