Noida help immolates self after charging employer with rape

A month after lodging a rape case,a 30-year-old domestic help immolated herself in Greater Noida on Monday morning.

A month after lodging a rape case,a 30-year-old domestic help immolated herself in Greater Noida on Monday morning. The victim had alleged that she had been raped by one Trigun Pandey she used to work in his Sector Beta-1 house.

The police took the woman to Kailash Hospital from where she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital. She came with 95 per cent burns and before we could call in specialists she succumbed to injuries, said Dr K T Bhowmik,Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital.

The victim had come to the Capital from Vaishali,Bihar,and is survived by a three-year-old son. Her employer Pandey used to work with Haldirams,the police said.

On September 10,she had lodged a complaint against Pandey in Sector 58 police station claiming that she was two months pregnant with Pandeys child. Investigations are on, said Surendra Verma,SP (Rural).

The woman immolated herself in front of the residence of Satish Pundhir,her acquaintance,who had earlier worked with Pandey.

The police said the victim and Pandey had been arrested for rioting by the Sector 58 police and produced before the city magistrate on July 30,2009.

Pundhir had bailed out Pandey in front of Poonam. Soon after the incident,Pandey left Noida and moved in with his family in Hyderabad, Verma said.

Police said the victim had trailed Pandey to Hyderabad after getting his address from Pundhir.

There she fought with Pandeys wife and alleged he had raped her, said Verma.

A case of self-immolation has been registered.
