Noida cop held for graft

A Sub-Inspector of the Noida Police was arrested by the anti-corruption branch of Uttar Pradesh late on Wednesday night for allegedly accepting bribe from a person named in a riot case.

A Sub-Inspector of the Noida Police was arrested by the anti-corruption branch of Uttar Pradesh late on Wednesday night for allegedly accepting bribe from a person named in a riot case.

The complainant,Dheerandra Kumar of Gulawati in Ghaziabad,was named along with a few others in case of rioting at the Phase-2 police station. He alleged sub-inspector Santosh Singh asked him to pay Rs 1 lakh to remove his name from the case.

“Around 11 pm on Wednesday,Kumar went to pay Rs 20,000 to Singh. He had also informed the anti-corruption branch. The police officer was arrested while taking bribe and the court has sent him to 14 days of judicial custody,” Superintendent of Police (City) Ashok Tripathi said.

Meanwhile,the Senior Superintendent of Police (Gautam Budhha Nagar) suspended Kumar and ordered a departmental inquiry against him. “A departmental inquiry has been ordered and we have suspended him with immediate effect. An FIR has been registered against him at the Sector 49 police station,” the officer added.
