Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he deserved the Nobel Prize for governance and administration for getting work done in Delhi “despite the L-G”.

He was speaking in Mohali in Punjab on Tuesday at the launch of party colleague Jasmine Shah’s book The Delhi Model.

While the relationship between Kejriwal and the three Lt Governors who he worked with when he was in power in Delhi was always rocky, it turned more confrontational after VK Saxena was given the post in 2022.

While Kejriwal said Saxena deliberately blocked the AAP government’s work, the Office of the L-G accused him of inaction, apathy and violation of governance norms.

At Mohali on Tuesday, Kejriwal accused the BJP government of ruining Delhi in just four months.

“The moment we left the Delhi government, in just three to four months, people began missing AAP. The BJP has ruined everything in no time. One by one, Mohalla Clinics are being shut down. Free medicines and diagnostics in hospitals have been stopped. Delhi’s roads are broken, filth is spread across the city… Even last June, when Delhi hit 50°C, there wasn’t a single outage. But now, despite the monsoon, power cuts are happening again. They’ve destroyed everything,” he said.

“I think I deserve a Nobel Prize for governance and administration for getting so much work done despite the L-G,” he added.

Hitting out, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said Kejriwal should be awarded for “incompetence, anarchy, and corruption”.

“Kejriwal would have surely received a Nobel Prize if there were categories for incompetence, anarchy and corruption. His numerous scams, including the Sheesh Mahal scam, are bigger than the other, but we regret that instead of a Nobel Prize, jail is awarded for such these. Arvind Kejriwal demanding a Nobel Prize for himself is laughable – it’s a crude joke,” Sachdeva said.
