Camps to brief Games workers of rights,benefits
The Delhi Legal Services Authority has started organising awareness camps to brief Commonwealth Games workers about their rights and benefits under Delhis labour laws.
On Tuesday,Metropolitan Magistrate Sameer Bajpai visited the construction sites near Rajghat and the Geeta Colony Bridge and gave registration cards to around 60 labourers. They were also made aware of their rights relating to wages,safety measures and other schemes.
L-G to DDA,MCD: Study slum rehabilitation
Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna on Tuesday asked officials of the Delhi Development Authority,Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other stakeholders to conduct an in-depth study on slum rehabilitation. They were also asked to take lessons from the Bombay Municipal Corporation and study efforts to rehabilitate Dharavi,the highly populated slum cluster in the state. P 2
Games effect: Summer break a week late
To compensate for the two-week holiday during the Commonwealth Games,most schools in Delhi have decided to cut down on summer break this year. Against the usual 61 days,summer vacations have been reduced to 49. Since the vacation has been cut short,most schools will be closing a week late this year.
Cops inspect accident site near Ansal Plaza
A team of the traffic police which inspected the site near Ansal Plaza in South Delhi where four members of a family died in an accident said the divider and the parking entrance of the mall have been constructed in such a way that they are not completely visible to the drivers. Sources said the police had received complaints about the particular stretch in the past too.
