A day after the charred body of businessman Devendra Kumar Ahuja was found in his Santro car in Pitampura,the police are yet to register a case.
Investigations,the police said,are still on to pinpoint whether it was a case of suicide,murder or accident.
Distraught about his fathers death,Ahujas 28-year-old son,meanwhile,twice attempted suicide on Thursday,the police said.
Aman Ahuja first tried to get into his fathers burning car,saying he wanted to see him one last time, a senior officer said. When people stopped him,he banged his head on the walls of the Guru Govind Singh College of Commerce. Then he tried to jump in front of a bus,but was saved by his relatives.
The Saraswati Vihar police recovered 55-year-old Ahujas body from his car,which was burnt completely on Thursday afternoon.
We cannot arrive at a conclusion till we are sure about the cause of the fire, said NS Bundela,the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest). A case will be registered only after we receive the postmortem report. We are questioning victims family and other relatives.
Officers said recently,Ahuja,who owned a factory manufacturing tin containers,was cheated by his partner. He was reportedly suffering from depression,the police said.
Around 11 am on Thursday,he left his GD-191 Pitampura residence for Rani Bagh to refill an empty LPG cylinder. On the way,he picked up his brother-in-law Rajender Kumar Arya from his Mahendra Park home. After purchasing the cylinder,he dropped Arya back and headed home around 12.15 pm. Around 12.45 pm,his car was found on in flames an isolated stretch near Guru Gobind Singh College.
Officers are investigating why his car ended up on the isolated stretch when his way home was through the main road. They are trying to find out whether Ahuja was murdered and his car set on fire or he had committed suicide. Ahuja is survived by his wife,son and a daughter.
