It hosted its first edition two years ago in Goa and since then,a lot of things have changed for the India Resort Fashion Week, now christened Indian Resortwear Fashion Week (IRFW). The name change aside, this year that marks the third year for the property will see actor Bipasha Basu come on board as the face of the event. More importantly though, this year also signals a major shift for IRFW; it is now going to take place in Mumbai instead of sunny Goa. Slated to take place from December 12 to 14,this event will see fashion shows on the first two days, with the third day marking another first. The India Glamour and Fashion Awards will felicitate talent across categories from designers, retailers and celebrities to emerging companies,make-up artistes, and hair stylists. Designer Rocky S,the creative director for the event, that is organised by the company E-Sense Entertainment, says that Mumbai has always been in sync with the latest trends, which makes it the perfect destination for IRFW. Given that the previous editions of the event met with staunch criticism from several quarters most notably from Goa-based designer Wendell Rodricks, who argued that the event was hurting its environment and image this move is an important development. But Reema Rathod, the spokesperson for E-Sense Entertainment, begs to differ. We have decided to host it this year in Mumbai as it is a convenient place for the media and the fashion industry insiders, she says. But unlike the last two years, this years event is By Invitation Only.
