A traffic marshal engaged with a private security firm was killed and another was injured after a Toyota Innova hit them in Fatehpur Beri,South Delhi,in the early hours of Tuesday.

A traffic marshal engaged with a private security firm was killed and another was injured after a Toyota Innova hit them in Fatehpur Beri,South Delhi,in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 4 am — police said the two were monitoring traffic on an intersection when the car hit them.

While Manish Kumar Singh,28,died on the spot,Manoj Mishra,39,is undergoing treatment at AIIMS,an officer said.

The errant driver,identified as Satpal,31,was allegedly in an inebriated state — he tried to speed off after hitting the traffic marshals but people present at the spot nabbed him.

He was later arrested and a case of rash and negligent driving was registered against him (under IPC Section 304A) at Fatehpur Beri police station. The vehicle has been confiscated.

The officer said Singh and Mishra worked as traffic marshals for a private security company called ‘Trig’ and were on night shift on Monday. “They were deputed near pillar number 52,where Metro construction work is going on,” the officer said.

Singh stayed on rent at Ghitorni village in Mehrauli; Manoj stays in Jaunpur.

According to the officer,Satpal,the Innova driver,runs a tourist agency in Gurgaon and was headed there when the accident took place. The alcohol content in his blood was found higher than the permissible limit in a test conducted by the police,the officer added.
