A day after Rehana, the wife of Bulandshahr BSP MLA Haji Aleem Choudhary, was murdered in her flat in New Jafrabad in Northeast Delhi, police said they would question the MLA who cut short his Haj pilgrimage and returned to the city.
Police sources claimed that the murder appeared to have been committed by someone close to the family and that the motive could be a property dispute.
Police claimed that the theft of Rs 20 lakh was a deliberate attempt to mislead investigators.
Police said Aleem agreed to join investigations and was allowed to attend the burial ceremony of Rehana in Bulandhshahr. Aleem will be questioned on Friday.
Rehana and Aleem were involved in a dispute over the Jafrabad flat for over four months, police said.
Police sources said Aleem wanted to sell the flat and move to Bulandshahr. But Rehana wanted a new flat in East Delhis Laxmi Nagar.
Investigators said two months ago,Rehana had filed a domestic violence complaint with the Krishna Nagar womens cell, after she had an argument with Aleem over the property. Police have questioned over 100 relatives, friends and family members.
Investigators claimed that the murder took place between 11 pm and 2 am on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
