A 22-year-old Delhi University student was stabbed to death while his friend was injured in a scuffle between two groups in Southeast Delhis Ambedkar Nagar on Monday evening. Police have arrested two of the accused and apprehended two minors.
The student,identified as Pankaj Kashyap,was a second-year BA student of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and lived with his family at Madangir. He was declared dead at Batra Hospital,while his friend Lekhraj is undergoing treatment for stab wounds in thigh,police said.
Lekhraj identified the accused as four minors and one Pradeep.
Lekhraj told police that the attack was the result of personal enmity over an altercation that occurred six months ago between three of the accused minors and his cousin Om Prakash.
According to Lekhrajs statement,on Monday he was near Shiv Shakti Market en route his garment shop with Pankaj and another friend Yajwender,when the attack took place around 9.30 pm. The three were on Pankajs motorcycle. They were waiting near the market and stopped Pankajs motorcycle, a senior police officer said.
A heated argument between the two groups soon turned violent. Pankaj,Lekhraj and Yajwender were allegedly punched,abused and threatened with dire consequences by the accused. During the scuffle,one of the minors caught hold of Pankaj while the other minor stabbed Pankaj multiple times the officer said.
Lekhraj was allegedly overpowered by Pradeep and was stabbed by the third minor in his left thigh. The fourth minor was holding Yajwender,but he managed to escape unhurt.
A case of murder and causing grievous hurt has been registered at the Ambedkar Nagar police station. We have arrested Pradeep and Rafiq and apprehended two minors. The rest of the accused have been identified and efforts are on to arrest them the officer said.
