The Metro has emerged as a popular mode of transport to Games venues with the ridership figures showing a steep rise over the last week. The average ridership was recorded at over 13 lakh commuters with the weekday average going up to as much as 14.7 lakh.
The highest ridership was on October 4,the first day of the Games,when 14.99 lakh commuters took the Metro. The figures are expected to soar higher once the total ridership figures are computed at the end of the event. A large number of commuters are using coupons sold along with tickets and distributed to volunteers and officials. The Dwarka Sector 9-Noida City Centre line topped with an average ridership of 5.10 lakh per day while the Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre stretch followed with 4.96 lakh passengers. Both are near many venues.
Meanwhile,Metro officials claimed they recorded an average operational punctuality rate of 99.88 per cent for the first week of the Games.
