A day after Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit accused the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of corruption, the civic body on Tuesday termed her allegations baseless.
Standing Committee Chairman Yogendra Chandolia and Subhash Arya, leader of the House, held a press meet in which they vehemently criticised the accusations levelled against the MCD in the Legislative Assembly during a discussion on the Lieutenant-Governors speech.
Dikshit had criticised the MCD over the ghost employee issue and on how the MCD keeps announcing plans but rarely implements them. The issue of ghost employees is still in court and, therefore, she should have avoided making a statement on it. The MCD has already adopted the biometric system to keep a tab on the attendance, but Dikshit turned a blind eye on all the positive steps taken, said Arya.
Arya and Chandolia also accused the Congress-led Delhi government of Commonwealth Games-related corruption. They dont have the willpower or plan to tackle corruption. Hence, they dont have the moral right to level accusations against the MCD, said Chandolia.
On the issue of the division of MCD by the Delhi government, the two leaders said it will only lead to more confusion. If the Chief Minister desires the betterment of Delhi residents, she should forget the MCD division issue and, instead, make it financially strong. Do not curtail the rights of the MCD,but make it stronger, said Arya.
