A 41-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in Madan Gir in the Ambedkar Nagar area of Southeast Delhi on Saturday night.
According to the police,the incident occurred last night,when the couple had a fight. The victim,identified as Meera,had a fight with her husband,Almanta,last night,after which in a fit of rage he stabbed her at their Madan Gir residence, a senior police officer said.
The senior officer said Almanta asked his wife for something to eat,however,both started fighting. Meera reportedly took a knife from the kitchen and attacked Almanta first; he snatched it from her hands and stabbed her. Almanta too suffered stab injuries on his hands and body.
The police said the couple has five children,two of whom were in the house at the time but were sleeping in a room on the first floor of the house.
Almanta runs a tea kiosk in the area,whereas Meera was a housewife.
The police said a case of murder has been registered at the Ambedkar Nagar police station and that Almanta will be arrested once he recuperates from his injuries.
We are also questioning two of their sons. A call was made by one of their neighbours after they heard Meera scream, the officer said.
The police said they have not yet interrogated Almanta and will record his statement soon. Reports of the victim are also awaited. We have also informed the family members of the victim about the incident, the officer said. Further investigations are on in the matter.
