Man shot while working out in gym

Three assailants entered the gym and fired shots at Arun Singh, who was unemployed and did odd jobs to earn a living.

A 24-year-old youth was shot by three bike-borne assailants in Outer Delhi on Tuesday morning. Police said the assailants entered the gym which Arun Singh was working out in and fired shots at him.

Singh was rushed to a government hospital where he succumbed to bullet injuries, police said. Meanwhile, others at the gym tried to apprehend the assailants and beat up one of them. The other two escaped and are absconding, police said.

According to police, three youths on two bikes went to the gym in Alipur around 8 am. They entered the gym and fired five shots at Singh, who was unemployed and did odd jobs to earn a living.

Others working out at the gym caught hold of one of the assailants and beat him up, police said. One of the gym members threw a dumbell at the man and brought him down, police said.

Police rushed him to LNJP and he is critical.

“We have registered a case of murder under section 302 of the IPC and sent Arun’s body for a post-mortem examination. Prima facie, there are five bullet injuries on his body though we are waiting for the final report. This seems to be case or personal rivalry though we have not been able to establish anything concrete since the lone assailant in our custody is critical. We are trying to establish the identity of the other two assailants through CCTV footage recovered from the gym,” a senior police officer said.
