According to the police, on the night of October 26, Inspector Narpal Singh was on patrolling duty with other officers on Batla road when he noticed a bullet motorcycle heading towards Zakir Nagar market. “The bike was making a loud noise and was stopped by the SHO. On inspection, it was found that the silencer was illegally modified, in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. The SHO then ordered the bike to be seized as per law,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Ravi Kumar said.
However, the bike rider, Asif, 24, refused to comply, the police said. Asif called his father, Riyassudin, who came to the spot. “The father said the police should ‘settle the matter’ then and there and let his son go, or else there would be consequences. When the SHO refused, Riyasuddin grabbed him by the caller and Asif punched him near the eye,” DCP Kumar said.
The father-son duo were arrested for attacking an officer on duty, and a case was registered against them at the Jamia Nagar police station, the police said. The SHO was taken to the Holi Family Hospital for treatment. Further investigation was in progress, said the police.
