Ghaziabad police on Tuesday arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as one Yamin, for allegedly shooting a girl in Indirapuram during a chain-snatching incident on Sunday. Ghaziabad SSP Raghubir Lal said the police were able to identify Yamin by scanning through CCTV footage.

Police said on Sunday, Yamin and another unidentified assailant snatched a chain from a woman riding pillion on a bike with her husband and her four-year-old daughter. “After they snatched the chain, the accused got caught in a traffic snarl and had to slow down. By that time, the girl’s parents caught up with them and tried to stop them,” said a senior police officer.

The accused opened fire at the family in order to escape.
