Days after five-year-old Mahi fell to death in a 70-foot abandoned borewell, two persons who dug up an illegal borewell just metres away from the one into which she had fallen, were arrested on Wednesday.
Himmat Yadav and Satbir were arrested from Rewari district. Police also recovered drilling machines from them.
Himmat is the owner of a drilling shop and Satbir works for him. They had dug up the borewell around 10-15 days ago. This particular borewell also belonged Rohtas Tayal,a resident of Najafgarh, who also owns the borewell into which Mahi fell. Tayal is still absconding, said ACP Raviner Tomar.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 188 and 336 of the IPC against Tayal after the incident. Besides proceedings of contempt of court have also been initiated against Tayal as the Punjab and Haryana High Court had banned digging of borewells without obtaining permission from the appropriate authority.
Confusion prevailed on Wednesday with some police officers at Manesar police station maintaining that the duo had dug borewell into which Mahi fell. However,Tomar clarified that the two men had dug a different borewell.
The district administration on Tuesday has made it mandatory for all drilling or boring agencies to get themselves and their machines registered with the district administration by July 10.
