A 40-year-old man,who attended parties posing as a professional photographer and allegedly stole cameras and other valuables,was arrested by the South Delhi police,officials said on Sunday.
With this,the police have reportedly solved 34 cases of thefts from plush venues in the Capital in the last few days. The man has been identified as Anil Kapoor,a resident of Faridabad. The arrest came following investigations into complaints of cameras and other valuables disappearing from parties at five-star hotels,farmhouses and late-night weddings, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chayya Sharma.
Investigating officers managed to get a photograph of the suspect and verify it with the staff of a hotel,which he had recently targeted. They also received information that he would be present at another hotel on the intervening night of July 7 and 8. Following this,police laid a trap for Kapoor and arrested him. During questioning,he confessed to the crime and helped police recover 21 cameras worth Rs 7 lakh,and a cellphone.
Kapoor said that his father was a professional photographer,and he had also taken up the same profession. However,three years ago,his photo studio in Faridabad AKR Soni was sealed over a dispute and his business suffered. It was then that he decided to turn to theft.
To appear like a magazine photographer,the accused purchased a car and expensive clothes. He would attend parties and steal valuables from guests.
