Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, legal adviser of a right-wing group which allegedly stopped namaz in the open in Gurgaon, was arrested Wednesday in connection with a Shobha Yatra incident during Ram Navami on April 2. He was granted an interim bail later in the day.
Station House Officer (City) Ved Pal said, “He brandished swords and weapons in front of a mosque and shouted slogans amounting to hate speech.”
According to Bhardwaj’s advocate Anju Rawat, “He was served a notice and police arrested him when he appeared at the police station around 11 am Wednesday. He was given interim bail after being produced in a court.” Rawat said the bail was granted for a day till the police file a reply in the matter in the court.
Bhardwaj, a former president of the Gurgaon district bar association who had defended a man who shot at anti-CAA protesters near Jamia Millia Islamia in 2019, said, “During the festival, we carried our god’s weapons. If invoking Lord Ram is wrong, I will continue doing it till I die.”
