Kiran Bedi
Retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and BJP leader Kiran Bedi’s husband Brij Bedi passed away after a brief illness at a private hospital in Gurgaon Sunday.
According to the hospital officials, he was rushed to the the emergency wing after complaining of breathing and kidney-related issues on January 28. “However, he had to be later moved to the ICU after his condition deteriorated and he breathed his last around 11:00 am in the hospital on Sunday,” the hospital official said.
A photographer and social activist, Brij Bedi ran a school in Amritsar for underprivileged children. According to the family, he would be cremated in Amritsar on Monday. “City of Amritsar lost a man who loved his city the most. One who gave all his life to the cause of the needy. We will carry (forward) his service,” Kiran Bedi tweeted, paying tributes to her husband. “He was deeply concerned and attached to the problem of drug addiction in Punjab. He was a courageous voice for several causes,” Bedi tweeted.
Brij was also the founder of Citizen Forum Vidya Mandir, an institute in Amritsar.
