For Vandana Gupta and her two children,it was a routine ride to school on Tuesday till three other cars pulled up near their Ambassador car,forcing them to halt.
Gupta and her children Anush (8) and Kasrishna (6) were kidnapped. Later the mother was released and told to inform her husband about the ransom amount Rs 1 crore. The police,meanwhile,were already hunting for the kidnappers as a passerby had informed them about the incident and provided the car numbers.
Soon,the main kidnapper Sachin Bhardawaj was arrested and the two children were rescued unharmed.
Guptas driver Jaspal Singh said,We first couldnt understand what was happening. As we stopped some people came out of a Swift car and started beating me. They got into our car and drove away with the children and madam. The driver then called the police.
Guptas children study at Lancer International School.
Police Commissioner S S Deswal said a passerby informed them about the registration number of one of the cars used by the kidnappers (Chevrolet Optra car HR 26 Z 2034).
The kidnappers abandoned the Ambassador car and Gupta in Sohna area.
The police,meanwhile,found the Optra car as belonging to Bhardawaj,a resident of Palam Vihar,and traced him through his cellphone number.
The kidnappers had used three vehicles Santro,Swift and Optra. The children were rescued near Kapashera at the Delhi-Gurgaon border and the main accused was arrested, Deswal said.
The police said Bhardawaj is an MBA graduate from Kurukshetra University and worked as a sales manager in home loan branch of CitiBank. In February 2009,he left the job and started his own company,Good Life,which suffered financial losses. Bhardawaj,28,a resident of Bahadurgarh was living with his wife and child in Palam Vihar in Gurgaon.
A case of kidnapping has been registered and the police is looking for the other accused.
