A fortnight after Arvind Kejriwal resigned from his post as Delhi chief minister, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has directed its depot managers to remove all “political posters” from its buses and premises. A senior ranking official said that accordingly, posters on buses featuring Kejriwal’s photo will be removed as he is not the chief minister anymore.

“…It is hereby instructed to all depot managers to remove all the political posters from the buses and depot premises of Delhi Transport Corporation with immediate effect. All concerned depot managers are instructed to follow the directions, and submit the compliance of order for the pursual [perusal] of higher authority,” reads the circular issued by DTC’s operation department on September 27.

Currently, posters with photos of Kejriwal and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot are found on DTC buses. Gahlot said that he was not aware of the latest development.

“This is nothing political…it is a routine which the department does after any change in leadership takes place…the posters on the buses were from the time when Kejriwal was the CM…now, as he has resigned, he does not hold any position is the government…so, we cannot have any political or AAP’s national convenor’s post on the buses,” a senior official said.

When asked if the new chief minister’s poster will be displayed on the buses, the official said, “There is no decision on that yet…maybe no posters will be displayed on the buses.”

This is not the first time that the bureaucracy has stepped in to get Kejriwal’s photo removed. Before August 15, the secretary of the Delhi Directorate of Information and Publicity directed that Kejriwal’s photo be removed from the Independence Day advertisement as he was “an undertrial”.
