Karnataka couple held for cheating

“The doctor,who was trying to get his son admitted in a Karnataka college,and his cousin were assured by Renu that her husband can arrange for it as he has good connections,” Vyas added.

He reportedly told the doctor that he has secured around 100 admissions in Russia and a number of admissions in Karnataka. “Kumar,in a handwritten statement on his letterhead with the National Emblem,mentioned that the expenses would come up to Rs 21,63,500,besides additional expenses. The accused assured the doctor that the entire amount would be refunded if admission was not secured for his son,” said Vyas,adding that the amount was paid in June.

In August,the doctor and his son met the couple along with another person who introduced himself as the director of a medical college. They told the doctor that due to some issues at that particular institution,there would be a delay.

“Later,Kumar told the doctor that he could not arrange for the admission and sought some time for refunding the amount. He allegedly gave two cheques of Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh to the complainant,but both of them bounced,” Vyas said.

Later,Kumar switched off his mobile and fled. Meanwhile,Renu kept on giving false assurances to the couple,stating that the amount would be refunded at the earliest. She also gave two fresh cheques amounting to Rs 25 lakh from her personal account,but the cheques bounced again.
