Intel said LeT,IM looking to strike

Sources said the suspects reportedly sneaked into the Capital at least three days ago from Uttar Pradesh and conducted a recce of the Jama Masjid area to study the number of tourists visiting in the area and ways to escape after an attack. “The IM has been planning to create panic during the Games. This was also disclosed by Salman,but we did not have any specific information on their plan,” said an official.

Meanwhile,the Delhi Police is zeroing in on the attackers,thanks to a number used to make frequent calls within Jama Masjid area before and after the attack. Sources said a suspect has also been detained by the police,though no official was willing to confirm the same.

The bike used by the suspects has been traced to an insurance company,but officials said the number plates could have been changed to mislead the investigations. Sources said the Intelligence agencies had come to know that the IM had been training a module in South India to fire from bikes. The police have also sent samples from the car that caught fire nearby to the forensic lab. “Usually,they use a small amount of potassium nitrate to cause such minor explosions and create panic,” said a source.

Interestingly,the Delhi Police is struggling to make the sketches as no one seems to have seen their faces clearly.

After the attack,a red alert has been issued in Delhi,NCR and Mumbai and officials are verifying all budget hotels and guesthouses. The police have also secured the call records of six telecom towers in the Jama Masjid area.

Police miffed with Bukhari
The Delhi Police is unhappy with Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Ahmad Bukhari for handling crucial evidence minutes after the attack. The Imam,who was among the first to reach the spot,picked up three 9-mm cartridges found from the spot and showed it to the media even before forensic teams could reach there. “This is tampering of a crime scene. The evidence can get damaged like this,” said an official.
