A day after a 35-year-old woman alleged she was gangrape by five policemen, including the station house officer of Inderpuri police station, the Delhi Police said they have recorded the statement of the victim in front of officials of National Women Commission and a psychologist. A team of Forensic department also visited the spot, where the victim was allegedly raped,to collect samples, the police said.

The public relation officer of the Delhi Police Rajan Bhagat said,“experts from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Rohini inspected the spots mentioned by the woman who alleged that she was sexually assaulted by five policemen.”

Delhi Police had registered a case of rape against the SHO,Pradeep Kumar, and four other policemen late last night after the woman recorded her statement with the Crime Branch.

The 35-year-old woman had alleged that she was taken to the Inderpuri police station on Monday by two policemen who asked her about the whereabouts of her husband, however, when she said that she didn’t know, they allegedly raped her on the second floor of the building.

“We have already sent the vaginal swabs for further tests and are awaiting the report,” Bhagat said.

The police also said that the SHO was not arrested, despite a case being registered, because prima facie we have no evidence against him. “The Supreme Court has given a direction that in rape cases, arrest should be made only when prima facie evidence crops up. Here no evidence has come to light yet,” police said.

Bhagat also said if needed the police station staff would be paraded before the woman. Call records of the victim’s husband are also being checked to establish where he was.
