The Delhi High Court pulled up Delhi Police and East Municipal Corporation for delay in filing a status report on the number of illegal factories operating in the Gandhi Nagar area after the advocate for the East corporation informed the court that the survey, which was to be completed over the last four weeks had not been done since the police had not provided adequate personnel.
Only three or four constables were made available to us,which are not enough to carry out a survey of the area, the lawyer said.
The court of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Jayant Nath had also summoned the DCP (East) to the court for the hearing, who in turn told the court that a large force had been made available, but no civic officials had come to conduct the survey.
The court has now asked the East corporation and police,as well as the petitioner to file a reply before on July 17.
The High Court is hearing a petition filed b a number of residents of Gandhinagar, alleging that over 800 illegal polluting factories were operating in the area. The residents said they were under threat from the factory owners for protesting against them.
On the last date of hearing, petitioner M K Kashyap had also alleged that he was beaten up by some persons for filing the petition and bringing the issue before the court.
In a status report filed before the court on Wednesday, however, police said they had not been able to find any evidence of the alleged assault.
