A day after his aide was found murdered in the Delhi University area,Himanshu Sabharwal, son of slain Ujjain professor H S Sabharwal, was questioned at length on Saturday.

The police on Saturday declared a reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone who gives information on the deceased,Parminder Singh. Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal also instructed the Special Cell to coordinate with the local police in the probe.

Singh was found murdered outside Khalsa College in North Campus in the early hours of Friday. Singh, who worked as an accountant in Sabharwal’s consultancy firm in Gurgaon, was killed while returning home after putting up posters in North Campus, the police say.

Two others who were with Singh before his murder were also questioned at Maurice Nagar police station today: documentary filmmaker Pooja Gaur and Mohammed Saif,a third-year student of Ramjas College. Both had on Friday told police that they, along with Singh and Himanshu Sabharwal, were putting up posters for a candlelight vigil at India Gate on Sunday to protest the recent acquittal of six ABVP activists in connection with Prof Sabharwal’s murder in 2006.

ABVP on Friday rubbished claims that it had anything to do with Singh’s murder.

“We have been questioned quite a lot since yesterday,” Saif said outside the Maurice Nagar police station.

The police are also probing the robbery angle and are interrogating bad characters of the area. All CCTV footage of the area are also being checked,an officer said. “There are several CCTV cameras in the North campus and we are looking at the footage,” the officer said.

Sources said a piece of paper was found from Singh’s possession and two mobile phone numbers were written on it — one of them reportedly belongs to a students union member.

Both Gaur and Saif have told the police that they did not know Himanshu Sabharwal and had met them for the first time on Thursday. They have said they learnt about the proposed candlelight vigil on a Facebook community launched by Himanshu after the six suspected of his father’s murder were acquitted by a Nagpur court on July 13 for want of evidence.

Prof Sabharwal,Political Science HoD at an Ujjain college, was allegedly beaten to death by a group of students in August 2006. His son’s group, meanwhile, has decided to go ahead with Sunday’s vigil at India Gate.
