An Armyman died in an accident in Gurgaon on Thursday while he was on his way back to rejoin duty, said police on Friday. Forty-year-old Sanjeet Kumar was with his son Vishant (18) when the incident took place at around 10.30 am on Thursday, they added.
Police said that Sanjeet — who was a Havildar in the Army — was posted in Kolkata, and was rejoining duty after a month’s leave. Sanjeet was riding the motorcycle with Vishant, a pillion passenger, when the vehicle collided with a private bus and the duo fell on the ground.
Kapur Singh, a neighbour of the victims who was near the accident spot, filed a complaint. He said: “As soon as Sanjeet and Vishant entered National Highway 48, a bus from Bilaspur Chowk rammed into their motorcycle… and the bus driver fled the spot.” Singh called an ambulance and informed the victims’ family about the accident. “I admitted Sanjeet and Vishant to a nearby hospital… Due to his critical condition, Sanjeet was transferred to Artemis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” Singh added.
Police said an FIR has been registered against the accused bus driver under relevant IPC sections at the Bilaspur police station.
