HC mulls over CBI probe for Shobhit case

During the hearing,Suraj Modi’s counsel claimed that the Delhi Police was not interested in investigating the case properly,and had failed to look into several important clues. Insisting that Shobhit’s murder was linked to his relationship with a girl,Modi’s counsel said the police had been deliberately ignoring his requests to probe the case from that angle.

Challenging the status report of the police,which mentioned neither the names of any suspects nor a motive behind the crime,Modi’s counsel said they had failed to carry out even basic investigation into the case.

“Shobhit’s computer and mobile phones were not

analysed properly and,in fact,his mobile phone was tampered with around the time of his

death. This is evident because records of calls made to or by him between 6.06 pm and 9.47 pm have been erased,” the counsel claimed.

He said the police had not investigated the matter in accordance with the events that occurred on the fateful day,and a “conspiracy” angle could not be ruled out.

As Modi’s counsel wrapped up his arguments,the court scheduled hearing of Delhi Police arguments for Friday.

With the nine-week-long investigation of the police into the murder drawing a blank,Modi had moved the High Court in July,stating that the family had “lost all faith” in the local police.

He was in favour of a CBI investigation in the issue,the victim’s father added.

Shobhit,a second-year IT student at Faridabad’s Manav Rachna University,was stabbed near the gate of his residence in Vasant Kunj,South Delhi,while he was on his way home from DLF Promenade Mall.
