An estimated 1,00,000 spectators are expected to visit Delhi during the event and Delhi’s 14,000 hotel rooms will be inadequate to accommodate them.

The Ministry of Tourism had estimated that Delhi will need nearly 30,000 hotel rooms to accommodate tourists.

“We will provide 7,000 rooms for spectators in Gurgaon and Faridabad. We have started work on projects that will be completed well ahead of time,” a senior official of the Haryana government said.

He said the Commonwealth Games will provide a “huge opportunity” for the hospitality industry and Haryana is ready to grab it.

Asked as to how Delhi will overcome the shortage of hotel rooms,a senior official of the Delhi government said the problem will be overcome with the help of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. He said the Uttar Pradesh government is likely to create space for 5,000 rooms.
