Gurgaon police arrest 2 ‘agents’ for demanding commission to get govt aid
The men allegedly accessed lists from Common Services Centres of individuals with pending government compensation and demanded commissions to release the funds, the Gurgaon police said.

(Express File Photo)The Gurgaon police on Thursday arrested two men for allegedly extorting money by promising to expedite government compensation under the Deen Dayal Scheme.
The suspects identified as Vikas, 32, was arrested from Rewari in Haryana, and Mahendra Kumar, 48, were arrested from Hailymandi in the city, and were presented in court on Saturday.
According to the police, a BPL card holder’s family applied for a Rs 5 lakh compensation under the Deen Dayal Scheme after the earning member passed away in January 2024.
The amount was approved but could not be credited due to the joint account requirement for the deceased’s wife and daughters.
On June 14, the deceased person’s wife allegedly received a call from an individual claiming to facilitate the release of the funds within 15 days for a 30 per cent commission, amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh, said a police officer.
The deceased man’s brother lodged a complaint the police action came following a complaint lodged at the Jamalpur police post.
At the Bilaspur police station after the suspects reiterated the demand for commission during their meeting in Pataudi.
A team led by Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar arrested Vikas from Rewari and Mahendra from Hailymandi. Initial investigations revealed that Mahendra runs a pathology lab in Pataudi, while the two men were also promoting an RO water purifier company.
They confessed to executing around 15 such incidents. The duo allegedly accessed lists from Common Services Centres of individuals with pending government compensation and demanded commissions to release the funds, the police said.
Vikas has a prior criminal record with six theft cases and ATM fraud in Rewari and Mahendragarh districts, the police said.
The Gurgaon police recovered three mobile phones and a Maruti Brezza vehicle from the accused.
“They were remanded in three days of police custody for interrogation. Further investigation is under way,” a police spokesperson said.
