A day after Newsline reported Gurgaon’s power crisis and excess use of diesel generator sets,Chairman and Managing Director of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Devender Singh met senior officers of the department to review operational activities.

Singh said: “The power supply in the state is much better this summer,as availability is adequate and system has also improved. The officials in the distribution corporations will have to ensure that there is no disruption in supply due to overloading or other constraints in the power distribution system.”

He said consumers will be made made aware of the benefits of declaration of unauthorised extension of load through voluntary disclosure scheme. Additional transformers, where existing transformers have load of more than 70 per cent of their capacity, will be set up. At least 16,000 additional transformers would be set up to eliminate the problem of overloading,Singh said.

The department also plans to upgrade its computerised consumer grievances redressal system to allow complaints to be lodged through text messages or online. The work on the maintenance of sub-stations,according to Singh, has been accelerated and all the critical works, such as special maintenance and renovation programme, will be completed within given time.

He said power theft and unauthorised extension of load are the major reasons of overloading and interruptions in power supply. Officers were asked to ensure registration of FIR within 24 hours of detection of theft. A complete feeder-wise indexing of all consumers will be done by the end of May. Self-financing schemes for new connections would be overhauled to make it more consumer friendly,Singh said.
