Gurdwara official held for molestation

Singh was produced before a local court on Monday, which granted him bail. He has been sent on leave by the DSGMC board till the inquiry is completed.

The incident allegedly took place on June 21, but the woman approached police only on Sunday after which a case of molestation under Section 354A of the IPC was registered at the Parliament Street police station.

Singh was arrested from his residence, police said.

Police said the woman has been working at the gurdwara for the last 10 years.

In her complaint, she alleged that on June 21 when she went to Singh to get some files signed, he refused to sign them and abused her.

“She alleged that the accused asked her to take the files away. But when she requested him to take a look at them, Singh allegedly abused her and held her neck. He allegedly touched her inappropriately after which she raised alarm and ran out of his office,” a police officer said.

The woman alleged that Singh had an habit of misbehaving with employees.

Speaking to Newsline, Harmeet Singh Kalka, DSGMC joint secretary, said if Singh is found guilty, appropriate action would be taken and he would be suspended from all his duties in the committee.

“We learnt about the incident from the media and soon after we initiated an internal inquiry into the matter. A three-member committee has been set up that will look into the case and, if found guilty, Singh will be relieved from all his posts and duties from the committee,” Kalka said.
