Govt grants relief over DDA’s misuse charge

The scheme, which will be applicable for six months, has been initiated to facilitate conversion of cases from leasehold to freehold.

People who owe misuse charges for several years to the Delhi Development Authority, have been given relief under a scheme under which maximum period for levying misuse charges will be restricted to five years from the date of detection.

The scheme, which will be applicable for six months, has been initiated to facilitate conversion of cases from leasehold to freehold. However, all decided cases of misuse, including cases where misuse charges have been demanded in accordance with existing policy, will not be reopened. “The misuse charges will be restricted to a maximum period of five years from the date of detection or the date of filing of application, whichever is earlier,” an official said.

Under the scheme, cases where certain permissible activities in flats or plots are reported as misuse by field staff will be exempted from misuse charges, the official said.
