Girl found hanging,brother ‘kidnapped’

“When Poonam came back from work at 6 on Friday evening,she found Kajal hanging from the ceiling fan. The girl was rushed to the nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. While four of the other children were found safe at the home of their relative,Vikas was nowhere to be found. The family told us that it was frequent for the children to move between the two houses,” the officer said.

Police said they suspected Sharmas’ neighbour Ramesh was behind the murder and kidnapping.

“Ramesh works in the same factory as Poonam does and lives on the upper floor of the house. He used to have frequent fights with his wife,who used to seek refuge in Poonam’s house. This used to infuriate Ramesh. A week ago,Ramesh’s wife went back to her family. We suspect that Ramesh committed the murder and the kidnapping to take revenge on the Sharmas for sheltering his wife. He is presently on the run,” the police officer said.

Police said three teams have been formed to search for Ramesh and to locate Vikas.

“We are hopeful of tracking him down soon and returning Vikas to his family. We cannot say anymore on this matter as it could compromise the search for the accused. However,appropriate cases have been registered against Ramesh at the Sector 20 police station under Sections 302 (murder),452 (house trespass in order to commit assault),and 364 (kidnapping for murder),” the officer said.
