Mobile phones, shoes, wristwatches, clothes — these are some of the things among a pile of debris that the investigating agencies have sent for forensic examination after the September 7 Delhi High Court blast.

A Delhi Police team and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) collected lot of debris from the spot where the explosives laden briefcase had exploded.

“We had collected a lot of samples from the spot which also included shoes, wristwatches, wallets and torn clothes. Most of it seems to belong to the victims, but we cannot take any chances. There could be some evidence among them,” said a senior police officer.

“There were some pieces of clothes which were found on trees. The aluminium strip, the only remains of the explosive laden briefcase,is being examined carefully for any kind of manufacturing details,” the officer added.

The samples have been sent to three different FSL laboratories — Chandigarh,Delhi and Gandhinagar in Gujarat .

However, officials are yet to find remains of a timer device, used to trigger the explosion, from the spot.

Police said they were also assembling the records of all suspected terrorists who have been arrested in the past ten years for any clues and links to the incident.

The dossiers of all the Indian Mujahideen (IM) members and the members of other terror outfits arrested for the pre-Diwali bomb blasts of 2005 are being deeply scrutinised.

“We have collected all the data and details of the members of the terrorist organisations in the recent past. A closer study is required again,” said the officer.

Police said the three teams constituted to investigate the case were working vigorously. “A separate team was constituted to check the antecedents of all the people killed or injured in the blasts. After a rigorous exercise it was established that the alleged bomber was not among them. We are taking the help of other people injured in the blast to ascertain the identity of the accused,” said the officer.

Police said though the bomb, which failed to explode on May 25 and the September 7 were not identical, they were not ruling out any possibility.

“The composition of both the explosives was different and was not made by the same person. This might have been done to confuse the investigators,” said the officer. While the May 25 bomb had potassium nitrate as the main content,in the other explosion heavy traces of PETN were found.
