Forensics asks for more samples from Israeli car blast site

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory team probing the make of the bomb used in the attack on Israeli diplomat’s wife on February 13 has not been able to draw any conclusions from the samples taken from the spot.

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) team probing the make of the bomb used in the attack on Israeli diplomat’s wife on February 13 has not been able to draw any conclusions from the samples taken from the spot. On Saturday, fresh exhibits collected from the crime scene were submitted to the CFSL. Police sources said the samples were submitted on a request by the CFSL authorities.

“The CFSL authorities had collected the samples from the spot on the day of the incident. Police also kept some of the debris recovered from the spot. We have handed over some of the car parts and broken pieces of magnet and glasses, collected from the spot. Sometimes when the report is inconclusive,we hand over more samples. Hopefully, the new samples will throw some more light on the case,” said a police source.

Preliminary inquiry with the CFSL authorities indicate a possible use of a low-intensity crude bomb. Sources said the use of RDX and petro-chemical were completely ruled out by the CFSL authorities. Police said they were sure of a magnetic sheet being used to stick the bomb, but have only recovered it in a powdered form. “We have been told that a chemical analysis will be performed on the machinery, the plastic of the car and the other samples we have recovered like glass pieces and metal handle of the car’s door. This will help find the ingredients used in the bomb,” the source said.

Meanwhile, police are yet to make any headway in the investigation. The voluminous travel details and the review of the CCTV footage have not revealed any leads.

On February 13,the Innova car of Tal Yehoshua-Koren,wife of an Israeli diplomat, was bombed on the Aurangzeb Road in the high-security New Delhi area. At the time of the incident, she was on her way to her children’s school. Koren survived the attack and is now recuperating at a hospital in Israel.
