Metro services came to a halt for over an hour on the Central Secretariat-Jahangirpuri line on Tuesday afternoon after flashes were noticed on the rear pantograph of a train at Rajiv Chowk station.

Flashes and repeated tripping of the Over Head Electrification was detected on a train headed towards Jahangirpuri. Metro officials said a ‘potential transformer’ on the train failed, resulting in tripping of the OHE.

Passengers in another train, which was stuck inside the tunnel when the services were stopped, had to be evacuated at Patel Chowk Metro station. “The deboarding was done for passengers’ safety,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

Services were disrupted for over an hour as officials used the Emergency Trip System was used to cut off power supply to the OHE at the Rajiv Chowk station. Services were restored an hour later at around 2.42 pm.
